Workshop title: Talk with me 台山方言
Brief description of the workshop:
This workshop aims at arousing interests of secondary school students in the local Chinese dialect (Taishanese) and associated culture of Taishan through hands-on making of an interactive device for playing back recordings of short phrases in Taishanese. Students will be working in teams to go through a workshop with 6 lessons, from an introduction of local culture of Taishan and Taishanese, to learning how to assemble and customize the interactive device which can playback recorded spoken phrases in Taishanese as collected by students. The interactive device captures different spoken phrases in Taishanese, which serves as means to preserve local intangible culture, and can be shared to other students as well as guests and community members in future.
